My formal training is Fashion Design. I studied at Leggats Academy of Design in 1994/95. After graduating, I entered the world of fashion doing couture work and corporate clothing. In 1997 I worked in Spain for a few months before returning to SA and entering into the exciting world of ‘Interiors’. My decision for a change in direction was prompted by a need & a desire to understand textiles, as I firmly believe that the key to the success of cutting edge clothing design lies in the fabric chosen for each garment. 18 months at The Silk & Cotton Company is where my true love & appreciation for fabrics began. The two years following that were spent importing furniture for the safari industry, as well as managing a small craft business. The latter involved empowering and teaching disadvantaged people to make various craft items. This was an incredibly challenging, yet rewarding experience. In 2001, I was approached by Abercrombie & Kent to do interior decorating, uniform design and retail procurement for their eight lodges in Botswana, Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. This was my dream job – incorporating all the aspects of design that that I am so passionate about. The experience I gained has proved invaluable and stood me in good stead to start my own venture Lucy Eaton Corder Consulting. In March 2004, this dream came to life as I embarked on my solo career. I have been fortunate enough to continue work on Abercrombie & Kent’s new lodges and various refurbishment projects. Further to this, I have also worked with The Nature Workshop on their community lodge developments in Madikwe, as well as various other private clients in Welgevonden & the Madikwe reserve. My work has taken me to Mozambique and as far a field as the United Arab Emirates.
These experiences have enabled me to offer my clients an unprecedented service that is borne out of an intense passion for design, 6 years of experience and a commitment to a 5 star service that I believe every client deserves.

“I recently joined LEC Consulting as Procurement and Project Management specialist. My career in this industry started in 1999 at Abercrombie & Kent in procurement where I branched out into project management and the development side of the lodges as Project and Procurement Manager. This is where Lucy and I met, we were both involved in the lodge development division. I was mainly involved in procurement, operations, logistics and the project management of the various projects and properties. We were responsible for everything from soft refurbishments of existing lodges, to the building of brand new lodge (camp) in the remotest parts of Africa. I loved the challenges that the logistics presented, making my roll really exciting and hands on. The challenges we faced included circumnavigating the yearly floods in the Okavango Delta, often having to fly building materials and equipment to site in small airplanes due to unusual torrential rain, and having trucks stuck at river crossings.
I then travelled to Dubai to take up a roll at The Parker Company which is a global procurement company that specializes in the hospitality industry where I fulfilled the roll of Senior Project Manager. The scale of these projects were substantially larger than anything I’d been used to in Africa, where I was working on 5 to 15 bedroom exclusive Game Lodges I was now managing Five start hotel projects with up to 1500 bedrooms with various public areas and restaurants, but I found that my experience in working in Africa stood me in good stead. These projects had their own challenges: dealing with many different Vendors around the world in different time zones, cultures and language barriers to having tight budgets and deadlines.
I am back in South Africa, and thrilled to have teamed up with Lucy again. I feel that my combined knowledge and experience in two very diverse industries will add enormous value to the service I can offer our clients at LEC Consulting.”
