Xobega Island Camp

Okavango Delta, Botswana

Nomadic Safari Camp

Xobega Island Camp is an existing tented camp, perfectly situated on a small island in the Okavango Delta in Botswana.  A soft refurbishment of the interiors was executed using various hues of blue to emulate the snaking waterways.  Introducing beautiful custom designed carpets with tribal motifs; hand woven basket lights, as well as timber and metal trunks were incorporated to drive an African Nomadic theme home.

The camp can only be accessed by boat therefore we designed the furniture in a modular fashion for ease of getting the goods onto the island.  These kind of logistical encounters are what we face all the time, and we love the challenge.

The tented bedrooms are furnished with twin beds, mosquito nets, a wardrobe and beside table with amenities.  These units have en suite ope-air bathrooms with bucket showers, which make for a ‘African al fresco’ experience that is hard to beat.

During a boat cruise through the waterways bird lovers can watch the abundance of various water bird species.  Also seen are the summer migrating species, grassland birds as bird of prey.  Not to mention the hippos, elephants and various antelope species that can be seen on the riverbanks.

Makoro (dug out canoe) Safari’s are popular.  The Makoro is glided through the shallow water by standing in the stern and pushing with a pole.  This is a great way to see the smaller water creature.

Lions can often heard calling in the evenings around the campfire, as well as the odd grunt of a hippo as a reminder of where in the world you are!
