Tartaruga – meaning “Turtle” in Portuguese

There is a strong emphasis on texture created by African crafts such as carving and weaving. The saying “barefoot luxury” really applies to this very homely villa.

Vamizi Island is part of the Quirimbas Archipelago in the Indian Ocean to the far north of Mozambique. It’s a slender 12 km long coral Island. With miles of beautiful white un-spoilt beaches, turquoise waters and a tropical climate, it is truly paradise on earth.
In the 15th Century the Island was know as Amisa with mostly Muslim inhabitants. At the time major industries were collecting and producing indigo, turtle shells and ivory. The previously exploited turtle shells are now protected with conservation projects.
The Island boasts 6 luxury villas, with Casa Marjarni being one of the six. Activities on the island include beach walks, fishing, boating and diving to explore the exquisite coral reef and spotting a Green or Hawksbill turtle in their natural environment. If you’re lucky you might even witness a turtle coming to the beach to nest.
Vamizi boast its own airstrip, which makes if fairly easy to get to the Island via either Pemba (Mozambique) or Dar es Salaam (Tanzania).
